Lyrics
Field of Doubt
By Ian G. Clifton
April 6th, 2003
Just when you thought you were going onward
Just when you thought you could smile
You've found you've been running in circles
And you've been doing it for quite a while
When you leave everything behind
You think you can only go ahead
But that is a foolish notion
Because you'll be crawling instead
And when you're so covered
With dirt and grime and tears
You'll never realize you should have known
That loneliness is the worst of fears
Everything will get so dark
The sun will set from the sky
And you will think back to all your mistakes
And all you can think is, "Why?"
And try as hard as you can
You will not see ahead
Because you've listened to your brain
You should have listened to your heart instead
So now you cannot go onward
And you can never find your way back
The sense of direction you use to have
Is something that you lack
You have to make your own trail
And it's the hardest thing you'll ever do
And when you find the perfect someone
Your paths will no longer be two
You'll create one single trail
And your happiness with be worth the pain
Because right now you can't imagine
The satisfaction you can gain
So look at the sky
And notice every star
Just keep your head up
You can go far
When you find someone lost
In that field of doubt
You be sure to give her some hope
But let her find her own way out
