Acceptable Use Policy

This policy explains how images from this site can be used on other sites and in other media. Text can be quoted as long as it is properly quoted and credit for the text is given to "Ian G. Clifton" (web pages should—but don't have to—link the author's name to the page in which the text appears). In general, visitors are encouraged to use images and data from this site as needed as long as fair credit is given.

Other Sites

Any of the images on this site can be used on other sites povided the following is true:

Presentations

During presentations (e.g., using PowerPoint), it is often distracting to have additional information featured for each picture. The best option is to use a final slide (or slides) to give credit for the image. In other words, the presentation should display the URL of the page from which the image was retrieved and give credit to "Ian G. Clifton," but these two items can be placed anywhere that is appropriate and legible in the presentation. It is not necessary to make the image link to the website in the presentation.

Printed Media

Published works require prior permission from Ian. Non-published works (e.g., printing 20 copies of a pamphlet) must give credit to "Ian G. Clifton" and can optionally feature the URL from which the image was taken.

Others

When in doubt, just ask. This page isn't meant as a "don't do X" but as a way to give users the opportunity to use images from this site as appropriate with minimal hassle. You do not have to notify Ian if you use an image on your site appropriately, but it is appreciated (it's always nice to see how one's work is being used).
