A-Minor Self-Portrait Date: May 10th, 2005 Medium: Acrylic Size: 16" by 20"

Info

Every artist does a self-portrait, but most of them have the sense to wait until they have some skill painting. I figured if I did a self-portrait, I would probably be a bit more picky about how it turned out, so I would learn to pay more attention to detail.

This actually turned out fairly well. I made the hair a bit too subdued, but I was trying to take the focus from the face and move it toward the center of the painting. That is why I made the pick and guitar such strong colors. The skin tones are not quite right, but they are good for being my first attempt. The painting does not convey the depth I wanted, but it is a vast improvement from its predecessors.

For the curious, "a-minor" refers to the chord I am playing in this painting. It was the first chord I played on the guitar that I instantly recognized from a song.
