Painting

Natural Beauty Date: March 18th, 2006 Medium: Oil Size: 16" by 20"

Info

This was my first attempt at a nude portrait, so I was eager to take advantage of the blending capacity of oil paints. Unfortunately I had planned to do this with my nicer oil paints, but they did not arrive in time, so I used the last bit in each of my cheaper tubes to just barely complete this one. I did not even have enough extra paint to work on the edges of the canvas.

This painting came out quite well. It is a good step in the right direction, so I am pretty pleased with the result. Her ear is just a bit too far back, and the blending on the back is not quite right, but it came out well despite the minor flaws. The green background is a nice, soft touch that helps to bring out the subject, but I keep thinking that a slight shadow would have given the painting more depth.
